What Do We Need?

As part of the Measuring the Mountain Project we are holding a Citizens’ Jury in Swansea on 24th to 27th September. We are looking for someone to act as a Facilitator for the Citizens’ Jury.

What is a Citizens’ Jury?

A Citizens’ Jury is a way of engaging with the public on a policy issue. It is like a jury in a criminal trial in that ‘jurors’ listen to ‘witnesses’ present ‘evidence’ about an issue and come to a ‘verdict’.  This Citizens’ Jury will be made up of 15 ordinary men and women from across Wales who will come together for 4 days to discuss social care issues. We need someone to facilitate the Jury discussions, to guide them through the process, and to work with Jurors to develop a set of recommendations that we will be submitting to Welsh Government.

Do I Need to Have Experience in Citizens’ Juries?

No. There have only been a few Citizens’ Juries in Wales to date. The sort of person we are looking for needs to have experience with some of the following:

  • Facilitation or moderation with groups, particularly diverse groups of people
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships.
  • Ability to work responsively and to be adaptable and flexible
  • Positive and motivated attitude, with a passion for public engagement
  • Direct experience of social care and an ability to speak Welsh are desirable

What Will Be Involved?

You will be contracted to work for 8 days (1 day meeting with Steering group; 1 day pre-Jury meeting; 2 days preparation and 4 days of the Citizens’ Jury). The days of the Citizens’ Jury are fixed at 24th to 27th September in the Liberty Stadium in Swansea.  Payment will include a negotiable day rate, plus all expenses will be covered.

I am Interested. What Do I Do Next?

If interested, please apply directly to Dr Rachel Iredale (Rachel.Iredale@southwales.ac.uk) with your C.V. and one reference/testimonial from a similar group or organisation with whom you have worked. She can also be contacted for informal discussions about the role on 07742 446091. The closing date for applications is 1st July 2018
